In Spain, around 1,500 people involved in alcohol-related road accidents and another 50,000 are injured. Pere Navarro, director of the DGT, responded in an interview on ‘RNE’ to questions related to the control of alcohol levels and why in Spain the rate is not lowered to 0.0. Navarro indicated that, according to a report from the European Union itself, lowering the authorized rate to 0.2 would be zero tolerancethat is, no one could drive after drinking alcohol.
“There is a report from the European Commission in which it recommends reducing it to 0.2, knowing that this limit is equivalent to a 0 tolerance. 0.2 is equivalent to zero tolerance. To communicate, it is easier to start from scratchbut there are gastric processes that could be the cause,” Father Aragonés explained in ‘RNE’.
He further stressed that the experts “They recommend 0.2 because there may be gastric processes” that affect the blow time: “0.2 means if you drink, don’t drive. The problem we have, like 0.5, seems to be moderate. 0.2 is nothing. Zero two means if you drink, don’t drive.”
