A town in Ciudad Real denounces being without a postman for six months: “It is an essential service”

The mayor of Montiel (Ciudad Real), Fernanda García, expressed this Monday her concern and discomfort with the lack of postman in the town “since February”a fact that has sparked numerous complaints among neighbors regarding “significant delays in shipments,” especially those of an urgent and certified nature.

As the advisor reported, in recent months there have been various efforts of the city council of the city so that the Post Office could provide a solution to this problem, but “they did not succeed despite insistence”.

Likewise, the mayor explained that “there have been several calls to the deputy delegate of the province,” and indicated that, despite his “good disposition,” the result is that “Montiel has been out of service for six months”.

“It is a fundamental right”

It was for this reason and in the face of the despair of the town’s inhabitants that García decided to ask, through a formal complaint to the Government Delegation of Ciudad Real and Correos to fill the post of postman in the city. “The cities of rural and empty Spain must have their essential public services properly covered,” he stressed.

The mayor lamented that “many talk about fighting depopulation and then allow the loss of services in rural areas, something I am not prepared to agree to.” “Access to these services is a fundamental right that must not be ignored”he condemned.

Garcia assured that “if we do not receive a positive response and our request is not satisfied, we will be forced to demonstrate in front of the government headquarters to defend our rights.”
