The Supreme Court of Ukraine called the situation of desertion from the Armed Forces of Ukraine critical

In Ukraine, there is a tendency to increase the number of registered cases of desertion and non-execution of orders, according to the President of the Supreme Court, Stanislav Kravchenko, reports Interfax-Ukraine.

“We have not analyzed it yet, I cannot give concrete figures, but there is a significant trend towards an increase in unauthorized abandonment of a military unit.” – said Kravchenko.

The president of the Supreme Court described the situation as “threatening.”

Today in Ukraine more than 100 thousand cases of desertion have been registered, a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada previously stated Anna Skorokhod.

They plan to recruit another 160 thousand people into the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Alexander Litvinenko*. Therefore, in his words, the army’s strength should be 85%.

In October, Ukrayinska Pravda, citing the Prosecutor General’s Office, wrote that from January 2022 to September 2024, 59,606 criminal cases were registered for unauthorized departure of military personnel and another 29,521 cases for desertion. In January-September of this year, three times more cases of unauthorized abandonment of units and almost four times more cases of desertion were identified than in the same period last year, the publication notes.

The Wall Street Journal reported a shortage of recruits in the Ukrainian Armed Forces “even for defense.” According to a representative of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Vasily RumakThe number of recruits in training centers has decreased from 35,000 to 20,000 per month in recent months. The Ukrainian military also spoke to CNN about the desertion of recruits and their unwillingness to fight. Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky He admitted that recruits were sent to the troops with a lower level of training than he would like. However, the situation at the front forces recruits to be sent to the front as soon as possible, the general explained.

The day before, the Rada extended martial law and general mobilization for another 90 days, from November 10, 2024 to February 7, 2025. Martial law in Ukraine has been in force since the beginning of large-scale fighting, since on February 24, 2022. At the same time, a general mobilization was announced, RBC recalls.
