European Commission calls Venezuela’s arrest of two Spaniards and a Czech ‘regrettable’

The European Commission said on Monday that Venezuela’s detention of two Spanish citizens and a Czech national is “regrettable” and that it is following the situation with “concern.” “It is regrettable that the Venezuelan regime has arrested European citizens”said the spokesperson for Foreign Affairs of the Community Executive, Peter Stano, during the institution’s daily press conference.

The spokesman stressed, however, that it was up to Spain and the Czech Republic to “responsibility” to deal with this situation because foreign policy is a prerogative of the Member States.
