The rain fell heavily on the island of Tenerife, where it caused several damages to secondary roads. This is the case of the El Draguillo-Benijo track, which was blocked due to landslides and where a car was even buried.
The Town Hall of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has decreed the closure of access to the track in the Anaga massif, due to these landslides and slope instability. The landslides did not cause any personal injuries and the affected area has been cordoned off, although rehabilitation and reopening work will begin once the current rain and storm warnings end.
This preventive measure will also involve monitoring the situation, and various technical reports will be ordered to assess both the risk of this slope and any necessary actions.
The damage occurs within the period decreed by the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Canary Islands of pre-warning for rain and stormsas precipitation is expected to be unevenly distributed throughout the archipelago, with low to moderate intensity.
Likewise, it is likely that storms will occur, which in meteorology refers to their electrical activity (lightning, lightning and thunder), which are usually accompanied by strong wind gusts and precipitation. The Government of the Canary Islands has recommended that the population take extreme precautions, especially if they are outdoors, and insists on following the self-protection advice established in these cases to avoid risks, as the condition of sewers and roofs is reviewed and the importance of traveling on main roads or highways, avoiding access to forest tracks or secondary roads.
Concerning the precautions to take into account before storms accompanied by lightning or lightning, it is important to close the doors and windows of the house, as drafts can attract lightning, stay away from towers, fences and other metal structures, and also avoid to take shelter under the trees.
