This Monday, the Palma City Council led by Jaime Martínez (PP) definitively acquired the land of They are Quint for 1.5 million euros. It is a natural space of almost three million square meters where metropolitan forest joined Bellver.
With the signing of the land purchase document, Palma City Council has taken the first step towards making this ambitious project a reality, in which will be accessible to all citizenssince it will involve the union of the city centre with the wooded areas of Palma and the Serra de Tramuntana.
“We are beginning to move forward with the Palma Metropolitan Forest project, which will include Bellver, Son Quint, the quarries and a large part of the city and green corridor connections with the urban part“, a mayor of Palma indicated that the lands of Son Quint extend “nearly three million square meters, with very important landscape, natural and heritage values.”
This public good, which will be the biggest in the citywill now be made available to municipal technicians, from the competent areas, so that they can set schedules in terms of security, being able to access or not, and protection of the space.
In addition, the municipal government team “is getting to work on a management plan and uses “which will be done with the same network of associations that made it possible to get there.” A plan which, as he stressed, will be implemented “as soon as possible but”, he specified, “in collaboration and coordination with the associations and local residents”.
Neighbors celebrate the acquisition of Son Quint

Former president of the Son Rapinya neighborhood association and co-founder of the latter, Xisco Mengotdescribed this Monday as “a very important day for the city of Palma” and, in this sense, wanted above all to “congratulate this government team that has made possible a the justification of so many years has been achieved” and, on the other hand, “to affirm that this was possible thanks to the work of neighborhood associations.”

For this reason, he assured that, from the associative fabric, they “will continue to press so that future generations can see most of the heritage of the city of Palma.”
Finally, on behalf of the Son Quint-Parc Naturel de Ponent association, its president spoke, Jeanne Pratswho remembered those who preceded them in the fight for Son Quint. “It was all of Palma that fought to be where we are. And we are very happy and immensely grateful to all those who have made it possible for Son Quint to belong to everyone today,” he concluded.
