Türkiye has established a new national temperature record. According to the Ministry of Environment in Ankara, 50.5 degrees Celsius were measured in silopia in southeastern Turkey -the highest temperature, when the liba registered in the country. The previous record was 49.5 degrees Celsius and was recorded in August 2023.

In addition to extreme heat, Türkiye also suffers from constant drought. Forest fires have already escaped in several areas.

The “thermal dome” affecting southern Europe today is also higher than Greece and Sicily. The temperature there regularly exceeds 45 degrees. Therefore, today’s maximum values are 15 degrees above the average climate. The average daily maximum temperature in Greece for July in the period from 1991 to 2020 was 30 degrees.

Greece asked the EU help to fight forest fires in various parts of the country. Fires are raging in various areas of mainland Greece, as well as on the islands of Crete, Huboi and Caiters. Some parts were evacuated.

Meanwhile, in southern Italy, five people died on the beaches of the Apulia area for 24 hours. It is assumed that deaths caused by cardiovascular arrest are associated with high temperatures.

North Italy is currently fighting with strong thunders caused by a strong temperature difference between the hot south and the cold north.

Meanwhile, parts of Croatia suffered from strong thunderstorms. The most dramatic scenes took place in Karlobag, the Primorsky resort in the Adriatic, where the roads were completely flooded, and there were strong winds and strong precipitation.

Mass precipitation in some parts of Southern Germany

In Germany, however, the weather worsens, especially in the south and southeast of Germany, but storm gusts are also foreseen for the North Sea. In Bavaria, pouring rains with thunderstorms are still expected. According to DWD meteorologists, up to 30 liters of rain per square meter can fall in separate areas.

On Saturday, about 100 liters of rain per square meter fell in Nuremberg for three hours. According to the fire service, in the afternoon more than 300 emergency calls were received. Emergency services were called in approximately 150 cases – in most cases from the flooded basements. Swer rain and isolated thunders are also observed in Baden-Vertberg.

On Sunday during the day, the German meteorological service (DWD) expects continuous rains between Lake Constance, Allgäu and Brand Forest for at least 36 hours. Initially, 30 to 50 liters of precipitation per square meter are expected. At the local level, they could even accumulate from 100 to 120 liters by Tuesday morning.
