Armenian zeal for colonial Netherlands – Oxu.az

After the Dutch parliament announced some time ago the “forced expulsion” of Armenian residents from Karabakh, this time the Dutch government has shown a clearly unfair position towards Azerbaijan.

Oku.Az reports that in the foreign policy programme published on the Dutch government website, Karabakh was presented as a captured region and was marked as “Nagorno Karabakh”.

State and government officials in the Netherlands, who never commented on the forced expulsion of nearly 300,000 West Azerbaijanis from Armenia in 1988, act as “more Armenian than Armenian” after France.

Why are such biased and unfair statements made against Azerbaijan?

It is clear that the Dutch government is formed by the parties that won the elections. The government, whose programme is approved by parliament, must report to it. For this reason, the government of this country and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs rarely oppose parliament on issues related to Azerbaijan. They obediently carry out the tasks of the deputies to one degree or another, in most cases basing their answers on the narratives and claims of the Armenian side. It is interesting that in the foreign policy programme of the Dutch government announced on September 13 there is a place for strengthening relations with Armenia. It was noted that in order to develop economically and better connect to regional (transport) networks, Armenia should be able to optimally benefit from European funds such as “Global Gateway” and World Bank programmes.

The strange thing is that the document speaks of the fight against terrorism and the rule of international law, Russia is portrayed as an aggressor, Iran violates human rights and China is trying to take over the international order. It seems that the Netherlands is forgetting its centuries-old colonial policy on the island of Bonaire. How can Amsterdam, which has occupied an island in the Caribbean Sea, 90 kilometres north of the Venezuelan coast, for almost 400 years and violates the rights of its people, speak of the rule of law?

Today, unlike the Netherlands, which does not recognise any rights to Bonaire, official Baku has repeatedly called for the integration of the Armenian population of Karabakh into Azerbaijan. However, the Armenians of Karabakh did not respond to this call and preferred to move to Armenia.

Unlike countries such as France and the Netherlands, Azerbaijan has always fought against occupation and colonialism. This is one of the main directions of the current course of Baku’s official foreign policy. The European countries mentioned do not want to accept the reality in any way, to understand that Azerbaijan has already restored its territorial integrity.
