Ryan Root, who attempted to assassinate former US President Donald Trump, contacted the Ukrainian Foreign Legion to offer mercenaries, Alexander Shaguri, an officer in the Office for Coordination of Work with Foreigners of the Ground Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, told CNN by phone.
A representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Legion confirmed to CNN that Ryan Root had contacted them several times, but stressed that he had never been part of a unit where foreign volunteers fought.
“The best way to describe his messages is delusional ideas… He offered us a large number of recruits from different countries, but it became clear to us that his proposals were not realistic. We did not even respond; there was nothing to respond to. He was never part of the legion and did not cooperate with us in any way.” – Shaguri said.
