Kara-Murza was sentenced to 25 years in the prison of Siberia for the “dissemination of misinformation” over the Russian army after the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It was published in 2024 as part of the exchange of prisoners/spies, agreed by the former US President Biden, the former chancellor of the German chancellor Olaf Sholts and Vladimir Putin.
In an interview with Euronews The Europe Show Show, he regrets how Western leaders believed in the “myth” in the first days of the first term in Putin as the president and previously as prime minister. Kara-Murza said that Putin was never a modernizing force that “believed in the reform” of the practice of the Soviet Union.
“Nothing can be more than the truth,” said Kara-Murz Schone Murray in Euronews.
“The myth is that there was a kind of early Putin, who, presumably, is good, you know who believed in reforms, modernization and cooperation with the West, and then something went terribly incorrectly,” he said.
Kara-Murza said that Western governments talk about the version of Putin’s “early”, who do this for “self-assertive” reasons.
Kara-Murza said that Putin’s true nature of Putin’s intentions was clear from the very beginning. He recalled that Putin ordered a statue in honor of the former KGP agent, who in 1956 was the key to the suppression of the Hungarians, who tried to rebel against the brutal administration of the Soviet Union in their country.
“I remember very well on the day when I understood exactly who this man was and in what direction he would lead our country,” Kara-Murza said.
“On December 20, 1999, before becoming the president, he was still prime minister, he arrived at the Lyubiangy Square in Moscow, the former headquarters of KGB, now FSB, to make official revelations about a memorable plate for Yuri Andropov, a long-time former KGB leader.”
Yuri Andropov was also a man who played an important role in the invasion of Hungary in 1956, who “set priorities in the suppression of internal disagreements when he was president of the KGB,“ claimed Kara-Murza, adding that he was “a man who embodied everything that was wrong in the communist system.”
Kara-Murza also warned that Putin uses the same type of flattery as Trump and his government to prevent them from acting against his invasion of Ukraine.
In March, Putin told us a special messenger of Steve Witkoff that he personally ordered a portrait to the Russian artist as a gift for President Trump.
Vitcoff described this as a “beautiful table” and said that Putin told him that he “prayed” for Trump after trying to kill against him during the preliminary rally.
“Putin rightly calculated that the best way to do this with Donald Trump is personal flattery,” Kara-Murza said.
“This is exactly what he did with this discussion for prayer for him. And also, of course, gave him a picture, brought by Mr. Witkoff to Washington, ”he said.
“I mean, look, these are the tricks used by the Soviets, and not just Soviet security services for decades,” he said, adding: “This is incomprehensible for such things can influence such things in the 21st century.”
