The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Jose Manuel Albaresrequested information from Venezuelan authorities “official and verified” about the Arrest of two Spanish tourists; also requested a “clarification of accusations” of which they are accused.

Ministry sources assured this Monday that the Spanish embassy in Venezuela is in contact with the chancellery, to which he informed that he would exercise diplomatic and consular protection of his nationals and would keep the families of the detainees informed in good time.

The Minister of the Interior of Venezuela, Diosdado Hairannounced on Saturday that two Spanish citizens had been arrested, Jose Maria Basua Baldovinos And Andrés Martinez Adasmewhom he accuses of having “links with the Spanish National Intelligence Center” and with figures close to the Venezuelan opposition who were preparing “a plan to assassinate” the country’s president, Nicolás Maduro, according to Diosdado Cabello.

Diosdado Cabello, considered by Washington lleader of the Soles drug cartel, accused the CIA and the CNI of participating in an operation joint effort to assassinate Maduro. “The detainees even speak of an operation with mercenaries, aimed at bringing them to Venezuela, with very clear objectives of assassinating President Nicolas Maduro. “They have contacted French mercenaries, mercenaries from Eastern Europe and they are participating in an operation to try to attack our country,” said Nicolas Maduro’s number 2.

The Spanish government was quick to deny that the two detainees in Venezuela belong to the Spanish intelligence services and specified that the embassy had sent a verbal note to the Maduro government “request access to detainees”.

The relatives of the detainees, originally from Bilbao, filed a complaint with the Ertzaintza to report their disappearance on September 9. As confirmed by the Basque Department of Security, the relatives were alerted to the situation generated by the Basque Police, which took measures and was able to confirm that both were detained in Venezuela, a circumstance of which the families were informed.
