Jorge Martín will have to wait another day to find out if he is proclaimed MotoGP champion. Pecco Bagnaia did his part this Saturday and postponed the definition of the World Cup title after winning the Barcelona Sprint. It will be more difficult for the Italian before this Sunday’s race. ‘Martinator’ will need to finish ninth – with seven points – to become world champion.
Bagnaia resisted the challenge at the start from Martín, who started fourth and managed to overtake him. However, the Italian managed to maintain his position and the other factory Ducati, that of Bastianini, positioned himself between them. It took the Spaniard five laps to get rid of Enea, although it was enough for Pecco to gain distance.
In the following laps, Martín was still around 1.5 seconds behind Bagnaia. Neither the Italian pushed too hard, nor the Spaniard wanted to take risks to get closer to his rival, even if this overtaking had then earned him the title. It was not the time to take risks, even when Bastianini passed him on the last lap, and everything is still looking forward to ‘Martinator’, who finished third, becoming MotoGP champion this Sunday.
