Ajax fans riot in Amsterdam

A protest by fans of the football club “Ajax” in Amsterdam led to riots and an attack on the police station.

Oku.Az TASS reports that Dutch police have detained eight people for disturbing public order.

According to reports, the action in defence of the early retirement scheme began on 15 September. These attacks led to the cancellation of the last two matches of the football club “Ajax”, against “Feyenoord” and “Utrecht”.

Although the protest, attended by hundreds of people, was initially peaceful, the fans later marched to the city’s main police station, where they damaged several police vehicles and attacked the station itself. They also used fireworks, disrupted the flow of trams and behaved aggressively towards passers-by. Special forces were sent in to disperse the protesters.

The Amsterdam municipality has criticised the actions of the Ajax fans.

“It is very sad that these fake fans behave like this in our city. It is not good for football or Ajax,” the mayor said.

The club itself has stated that it does not support the fans’ actions.
