November It is the month chosen by many cities to decorate themselves with typical Christmas lighting. London has already lit them, Paris will do so on November 26 and Berlin six days before. In this sense, the big question is when will Madrid turn on its lights.
Neither Mariah Carey’s Christmas carol, nor advertisements for nougats or perfumes, the real moment that many take as a reference for the “official” start of Christmas This is the switching on of the lights, an event perhaps disputed by the premiere of the Christmas Lottery advert.
During the holidays, the capital decorates its main streets, squares and buildings with millions of LED lights that flood the city with colors and invite you to stroll at sunset.
A new Christmas tree at Puerta del Sol
In 2024, Madrid will award 4.4 million euros to the process of installing Christmas lights, which includes the placement, maintenance and dismantling of the lights, which will be active until after Epiphany.
In total, the capital will be decorated with 7,100 light garlands, 121 illuminated cherry trees, a dozen large shiny fir trees and other typical Christmas motifs. This year, the imposing luminous tree of Puerta del Sol will have a renewed designreaching almost 37 meters high (equivalent to 12 floors) and will be crowned by a star.
When do the Christmas lights come on in Madrid?
The 2024 Christmas lights will be on next Thursday, November 28. Although the details of the event are currently unknown, it is known that it will take place at Puerta del Sol.
