Podemos spokesperson and MEP Isa Serra described recent statements by Sumar’s former congressional spokesperson, Íñigo Errejón, as “far-right speeches.” publicly questioned the veracity of the complaint for sexual assault filed by actress Elisa Mouliaá.
Errejón said the complaint was false and that Mouliaá had acted “in bad faith.” Serra, questioned on this issue during the demonstration organized in Madrid for “the self-determination of Western Sahara”, showed her disagreement with these statements, emphasizing that it was a speech that accuses the complainant, which is typical of the extreme right.
“The important thing is be on the side of the victims“, underlined the MEP, insisting that those who denounce must be supported, and not questioned in such an unfounded way.

Furthermore, Serra recalled that he himself had Íñigo Errejón had declared in the past that “there were no false complaints”a message which now contrasts with the words he himself said in this affair.
The Podemos MEP also referred to the appeal presented by Errejón after judge Adolfo Carretero temporarily paralyzed the investigation, due to the medical arrest of Mouliaá’s lawyer, Carla Vall, who is in a state of advanced pregnancy. In the appeal, Errejón’s defense alleged that this the decision was a “ploy” and a delaying tactic to delay the legal process.
In the appeal, it was argued that the suspension of the case was in response to “fraud of the law” and a “abuse of rights” on the part of the plaintiff and her lawyer. Errejón’s defense requested that the case resume as soon as possible to allow his client to testify and present his version of events before the judge.
Errejón, according to his defense, he intended to testify on November 12 or as soon as possibleto clarify their innocence and refute what they consider to be a false complaint. In this sense, the defense also pointed out that Mouliaá publicly stated that his lawyer needed more time to organize other possible accusations from other victims, which, according to Errejón’s defense, would confirm the weakness of the initial complaint.
The termination of the investigation has generated a “procedural vacuum” for Errejón, who finds himself immersed in a legal process that is not moving forward, while his name continues to be publicly called into question due to the accusations.
The defense emphasizes that The situation is “legally and humanly unacceptable”because not only is Errejón’s personal and professional life affected, but he is also prevented from immediately defending himself. In his appeal, Mouliaá’s right to freely choose his lawyer is also called into question, since a replacement was not formally requested, which unnecessarily prolonged the proceedings.
