Von der Leyen accused Putin of blackmail – EADaily, November 16, 2024 – Politics news, Russian news

Russian President Vladimir Putin is trying to blackmail Austria and Europe by cutting off gas supplies. This was announced today by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

“Putin is once again using energy as a weapon. He tries to blackmail Austria and Europe by cutting off gas supplies. We are prepared for this and prepared for winter. Gas storage facilities in the EU are full. like i said Karl Nehammer yesterday Europe united to support Austria.” – writes von der Leyen in his social network account, quoted by the Pool No. 3 telegram channel.

Let us note that it was von der Leyen who two years ago demanded to abandon Russian gas:

“Restrictions on Russian gas. We must cut the Russian revenue that Putin is using to finance this terrible war against Ukraine. We are ready for this. At the beginning of the war, the share of Russian gas by pipeline accounted for 40% of all imported gas. Today this represents only 9% of our gas imports,” he wrote.

how it was transmitted EADailyRussian gas continues to flow to Austria, despite statements in the European country that Gazprom has warned that supplies will cease from November 16.

According to the Slovak operator EuStream, Russian gas will continue to arrive in Austria on November 16.

Recall that Austria is preparing to suspend the supply of Russian gas since the beginning of the military operation in Ukraine, Chancellor Karl Nehammer said after Gazprom notified the Austrian OMV about the cessation of supplies.

“What we were preparing for since the beginning of the war in Ukraine has happened… I can promise: no one will freeze in winter, not a single apartment will be cold,” Oe24 quotes Nehammer.

He added that Austria will not allow itself to be “blackmailed” by anyone, including Russia.
