More than 170 people have died in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh as a result of heavy rains since the start of the monsoon season in June.

Due to the bad weather, roads were flooded in Himachal Pradesh and there were power problems. Damage to the state’s infrastructure as a result of the natural disaster amounted to 13.2 billion Indian rupees (over 158 million USD).
The monsoon season in India usually starts in early June. It then moves northwards and usually covers the entire country by mid-July. The monsoon ends by late September to early October.
