Israeli leaders may launch a large-scale military operation against the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon within six weeks.
Oku.AzThis was reported by the Jerusalem Post newspaper, citing its sources.
The publication attributed it to the winter factor.
“Sources said that if the operation is not carried out within four to six weeks, it will be impossible or very difficult to carry out until spring 2025,” the author writes.
The newspaper’s interlocutors noted that the weather conditions in Lebanon’s mountainous regions in winter are harsher and more difficult than the conditions faced by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the deserts of Gaza.
Delaying large-scale military operations could result in the 60,000 Israelis evacuated from the northern border regions spending another six months away from their homes.
Moreover, the successful prevention of Hezbollah’s rocket attack on August 25 gave confidence to Israel’s political leaders about a military operation against the movement. This led to a review of the assessment of possible losses as a result of launching a ground operation against Lebanon.
“All this does not mean that a wider war with Hezbollah is inevitable. It remains a risky proposition for Israel, Hezbollah, as well as for the sponsors of these parties: the United States and Iran,” the paper said.
The authors of the article note that the US involvement in the regional war can be seen as a failure of Washington’s nearly year-long diplomatic efforts to prevent a large-scale conflict, which will affect the election campaign.
For Iran, such a war could pose a threat by seriously weakening Hezbollah.
“This is the most dangerous time in the north (of Israel) since October 7,” the authors of the article concluded.
