UPNA promotes a debate on coexistence in the old town of Pamplona

THE Public University of Navarra (UPNA) will be the scene of the conference “Living and coexisting in old Pamplona”, an initiative that seeks to explore the challenges of the historic center of the Navarrese capital, to make visible the problems that affect the neighborhood and open a space for dialogue finding solutions that prioritize residents over those who consume nightlife.

This event, which will take place from November 18 to 30, consists of an artistic installation, “Planta 0”, from designer Carmen Parrado Gil and two round tables organized by the Convivir en lo Viejo association, in collaboration with the Department of Sociology and Social Work of the academic institution.

THE artistic intervention “Planta 0”, awarded this year with the Design Prize of the 40th edition of the Young Art Meetings of the Navarro Youth Institute, offers a critical reflection on coexistence in the Old Town, with emphasis on the interaction between residents and people who frequent the area to enjoy the nightlife.

The piece is based on open city concept, proposed by the sociologist Richard Sennet and the architect Pablo Sendra, who defends public space as flexible and dynamic, adapted to the needs of its inhabitants.

The establishment, located on the 3rd floor of the UPNA classwill be open to the public from November 18 to 30 from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. with free access. Through five pieces, the work makes visible the effects of nightlife on daily life in the neighborhood.

Among them, “Tesiento” stands out, an armchair made from 464 cans collected on Navarrería Street in six days, which invites us to reflect on the impact of waste. Other pieces like “Aromeada”, a giant air freshener that represents the 17 liters of urine that flood this same street in a single night, and “Julia”, a video about the interruption of children’s sleep due to noise, highlight the difficulties of coexistence.

Leisure, business and coexistence in the old town

The sessions will also include two round tables. The first, entitled “Leisure, business and coexistence”, will be held on Tuesday November 19 from 12 p.m. in room 010 of the Leisure Room (ground floor) and will address the impact of leisure linked to consumption of alcohol on quality. of life of the inhabitants. The second table, “The Old Town for sale”, will take place on Monday November 25 from 5 p.m. in the same room 010 of the Aulario and will focus on the commercialization of the neighborhood and the consequent eviction of its inhabitants.
