A Ukrainian prisoner is depicted being executed with a sword in his chest

Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmitro Lubinets denounced this Tuesday “a new war crime” was allegedly committed by Russian soldiers who executed a man with a sword unarmed Ukrainian prisoner of war whose hands were tied with adhesive tape. The case reported by Lubinets was revealed in recent hours with the appearance on social networks of a photograph of a man in Ukrainian army uniform lying on the ground with a sword with the inscription “For Kursk” (presumably in reference to the Ukrainian occupation of part of this Russian oblast) nailed to the chest.

“The level of barbarity and their (Russians’) bloodlust is immeasurable. Actions like this are a flagrant violation of the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War!” Lubinets wrote on his Telegram account. The Ukrainian Ombudsman criticized the alleged passivity of the Russians. the international community and announced that he had sent letters to the Red Cross and the UN asking them to investigate this “new violation of human rights by Russia.”

Since the beginning of the invasion, Ukraine has denounced the Cold-blooded execution of dozens of Ukrainian soldiers who had surrendered or been taken prisoner of war by the Russians. Some of these executions were recorded on video and broadcast on social media.
