IU- Podemos abandons the Parla government and leaves the PSOE in the minority to finance the bulls

Podemos-IU spokesperson in Parla, Vanessa Calleannounced on Tuesday that he was leaving the socialist government of this municipality after the PSOE financed with public money the bulls of the patron saint festivals next September.

In a press conference, the Podemos-IU group wanted to highlight the non-compliance with the government agreement reached with the Socialist Party, which occupies the position of mayor thanks to the support of IU-Podemos and Más Madrid.

The purple formation accused Mayor Ramón Jurado of trying to capture right-wing votes with this type of action and regretted that he never wanted to negotiate and that the response was always “the decision is made.”

Podemos also attacked Más Madrid, accusing it of “not acting on this issue and taking sides on issues as important as the defense of animals.” More from Madrid clearly stated his double standard supporting bulls in the municipalities where they are part of the government and condemning them where they are in the opposition.

In the case of CercedillaSeveral budget items in favor of bullfighting celebrations have been proposed by the PSOE that governs this city in the mountains of Madrid and supported by Más Madrid. Something that has also happened in Old Town of San Antonioa municipality governed by the PSOE where its mayor, Antonia Alcazar Jimenez, She is also vice-president of the Bullfighting Affairs Commission of the Federation of Municipalities.

“They lied to us that they wanted to pay for the bullfight because the clubs had no money. That’s a lie. It’s just the tip of the iceberg, because it’s very difficult to reach agreements with the PSOE, which forgets that it has a majority thanks to our support,” the Podemos-IU councilor denounced in Parla. Vanessa Calle. The advisor also announced that leaves his board file and that he is taking a step back because “consistency and loyalty must take precedence over any electoral tactic.”

Also this Monday, he left his file as Podemos advisor Carla Escudero, who also denounced the fact that Parla’s PSOE would award contracts to family and friends. Among them, for the Parla Bullfighting Association where, according to Podemos, there would be positions of trust of the Councilor of Culture within the board of directors. These affirmations have led the socialist mayor, Ramon Jurado, to file a complaint against her.

Since entering the municipal government in 2019, Podemos has maintained that bullfighting should not be financed with public money. This commitment was reaffirmed in the 2023 government agreement and so, for 5 years, there have been no bulls in Parla. After the departure of the IU-Podemos government, the socialists will have to govern in a minority with the problems that this could entail in the approval of budgets. IU is waiting to hold an Assembly to decide on the roadmap to follow.

Parla’s PSOE, with 11 councilors, governed until Tuesday with a majority thanks to the support of two councilors from Podemos-IU and two others from Más Madrid, a total of 15 against 12 for the opposition (PP and VOX).
