On Thursday, May 8, a writer, musician and programmer at Fran Gayo film festivals, this Thursday, May 8, in Buenos -Aires (Argentina), died of cancer. Fran Gayo, born in the XIXón 55 years ago, leaves his son (OLMO), a companion (director and screenwriter Milagros Mumimentary), Roman, two books of poetry, five albums and many memories of his friends on both sides of the Atlantic.

Fran Gayo is blinded by his musical project Mus (1999 – 2007), as well as Monica Vakas, at the end of the 19th century sound scene in the late nineties. His proposal was radically different from the confusing sound of guitars and distortions of this scene, because he deliberately sought to experiment with silence and slowness, with letters in Asursky, who did not lose sight of the social context, despite their introspection.

After closing the scene with Mus, Gayo published a solo album, The following crops (AaterColor, 2009), where he decided to sing himself in the Spanish, and in more pop -songs.

In the same year, he moved to Argentina and since then lived there. Gayo knew his three artistic passions: music, cinema and literature. From the very beginning of his musical career, he also devoted himself to the management of culture as a programmer and director of film festivals. He was responsible for the programming of the International Film Festival in Jukhon (FICX) from 1997 to 2009, as well as at the second stage between 2020 and 2024. He was also a programmer at the prestigious Bafifi, the international festival of the independent film Buenos -Aires. His last work in this line was as a programmer from the film and the LGTBI film festival in the NieMeyer de Avilés center since 2012. This institution fired him, emphasizing his “unique, curious and generous look that can open films and tell stories that we would not know otherwise.”

In addition, he was a jury at well -known festivals, including San Sabastian, Valdniu, Courtzirto, Point of view, Saiji or Transcriminema. He also occupied the artistic direction of the International Film Festival OURENSE (OUFF) in his publications in 2016 and 2017. Since 2019, he has participated in the NIFFF programming team (International Fantastic Film Festival in the Nepelier, Switzerland) and since 2021 from GIFF (Jelens International Film Festival) as an adviser in Latin America and Spain.

Being a programmer, his commitment to the new directors and their various views was noticeable, which would make the importance for history to create a difference and average. And kept beauty.

On his university stage, Fran Gayo studied Latin American literature. Poetry has always been part of him. Two books published: Cold chain (Suburbia, 2015) and Les Blanques Fogueers / White Bonfires (Polar expeditions 2019). The last for him was an intensive work, according to him, in an interview with this newspaper that his letter “exhausted” him, to such an extent that “to grab fear and respect for poetry”. That is why he focused on writing a horror novel.

This novel was Christmas wolves (2022), published on Troy Horse on the Jonah Trueba stage as an editor. These working dialogs between the real Buenos -Aires in the Pandemia and the past in Asturia before the Civil War. Personal memory becomes ghostly when it is reflected in deforming mirrors, but everything means.

In a letter of the Fran -Gayo, the words are carefully selected to put us at an awkward moment, because they warn the reader of the worlds who collapse, social and personal conflicts, what place we choose to observe the world. In addition to these works, Gayo published a story in a special room Ten decades of history From the paper magazine Eldiario.es, in which ten writers celebrated the first ten years of Eldario. Asturian introduced this story 1991, This can be read here.

In his Instagram account, his family published news about death: “We know that many loved him, dialogue, general readings and hobbies,” they wrote about the interactions that he created in this social network. Right there they reported that on Friday they would devote a tribute to respect for Malabia Street, 1662 in Buenos -Aires.

His love for cinema, his humor, his vision of the world, his passion for history, his sour and implacable honesty, will be remembered.
