During the press conference of the United Nations e-Government Development Index (EGDI) held today, it was announced that Azerbaijan has made significant progress in the direction of digital government development.
Oku.Az It is reported that in the international report, our country has moved up 9 places this year compared to 2022 and has risen to 74th place among 193 countries. In the final indicator of the rating, Azerbaijan reached the historical indicator, with a score of 0.7607 points on a 1-point scale. Thus, for the first time Azerbaijan entered the list of countries with a very high EGDI, which is considered the highest category of the index.
The United Nations e-Government Development Index is published every two years and this report includes indicators of countries’ digital government development. The indicators in this year’s report reflect the situation up to May 2023.
Azerbaijan has made progress in each of the areas of online public services and telecommunications that reflect the index’s assessment criteria. The report notes that a 21% increase was recorded in each of the indicators of online public services and telecommunications infrastructure in our country. Compared to previous years, Azerbaijan has for the first time made significant progress in the E-Participation Index (EPI). The increase in this index was 28% and led to our country moving up from 98th to 88th place in the index.
Azerbaijan’s position in the ranking has been significantly strengthened by the work carried out in the direction of the Digital Development Strategy over the past two years, including coordinated activities of relevant state institutions, various digital government solutions created as a result of experience exchange with international experts, and initiatives such as the Azerbaijan Online project implemented at the national level.
