The first time I see my daughter she is in a bed, surrounded by nurses, a few minutes after giving birth. Joseph, my partner, negotiated so that I could see her fifteen minutes before they took her to the operating room. Manoë suffers from a malformation, laparoschisis, which means that her abdominal wall has not closed completely. I see her and I feel proud, I find her very beautiful. But this is just the beginning: at 21 I had a daughter and the next day I was in danger of losing her.
With Joseph, his father, it was obvious. We were good friends for ten years, we come from the same region. At the beginning of 2023 I was 21 years old, he was 24. He invited me to spend a day in the mountains, it had been a long time since we had seen each other. I had never skied and that day I understood that with him I was not afraid of anything. It was a click. The next day we were a couple.
At that very moment, I strangely stopped being afraid of commitment. So I’m in the third year of studying philosophy in Bordeaux, while he is at BTS in Brive-la-Gaillarde (Corrèze). We are two and a half hours away by car, but we try to see each other several times a week, taking the train, hitchhiking… We both know that we are involved in something very serious. We met up and a week later I called my parents one night and said: “José is the love of my life. » They laughed.
Having a baby after two months
There is talk of having a baby at two months. The conversation lasts all night. We explore together how we want to raise a child, before even raising the question of our status as students. We are so sure of ourselves that we tell ourselves that it makes no sense to follow the classic pattern: finish school, find a job, have a house and then have a child. From a practical point of view, we consider that their work-study salary and the support of our families will be sufficient. By the end of the night, it’s decided.
I got pregnant two weeks later. I’m with friends on the weekend and no one knows we’re trying to have a baby. When I see the bars on the pregnancy test I am very surprised and very happy. I know it has already changed my life.
When I told Joseph about it, I felt a little apprehensive, it happened so quickly. Cry with joy. When I told my family, my father lay on the floor in shock and then hugged me. It was very powerful, I will never forget this moment.
