Pagers Exploded In Lebanon Were Part Of Hezbollah’s Communications System – NPR

Dozens of fighters from the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah were seriously injured today in a surprise massive explosion of the pagers they used to communicate, NPR reports.

“In what appears to be a large-scale attack on part of the group’s communications network, the explosions occurred in the southern suburbs of Beirut, where Hezbollah has offices, and in the south of the country,” – the radio transmits.

It should be noted that on Tuesday, the Lebanese Ministry of Health ordered the country’s hospitals to prepare for a large number of casualties and warned anyone who had a pager to get rid of it immediately. All health workers were asked to report for duty, citizens were asked to donate blood and anyone who had a pager was asked not to use the device until “the situation has been fully clarified.”

It is not clear what caused the series of explosions. Citing security sources, Reuters news agency said the pagers that detonated were the latest models supplied by Hezbollah in recent months. No one has yet claimed responsibility, the radio reported.

Meanwhile, an IDF spokesperson told CNN that “we do not comment on reports from Lebanon.”

In this context, Israel has raised the alert level in all ports.

“The defense establishment believes that Hezbollah intends to launch a military operation against Israel and therefore senior officials and officers have been asked to abandon previous commitments and participate in the discussions currently taking place in Kirya,” writes the Israeli publication Haaretz.

as it was transmitted EADailyEight people were killed and more than 2,800 injured as a result of pager detonations in different parts of Lebanon, the head of the country’s Ministry of Health announced at a press conference. Firas Obyad.
