There was no Indian summer in Russia this year, the warm period was simply prolonged. It is still difficult to say how this will affect winter, meteorologist Tatyana Pozdnyakova told Pravda.Ru.
“It is already officially underway. But this cannot be called “Indian summer”. It is simply a continuation of summer,” he explained. “Because Indian summer is a period of returning heat in September, when we experience cold and rain at the end of August. Beginning of September and then the heat returns. And why was it called “Indian summer”, because from the 14th, the official date of the beginning of the classic Indian summer, because then it was September 1 according to the old style, once summer was over, but this week was called “Indian summer”, when the harvesting work was over and women could rest, as they say. Therefore, we can say that our Indian summer period simply merged with meteorological summer. Because now the time is summer, not September and not Indian summer.”
According to Pozdniakova, unusual weather in September is unlikely to lead to subsequent weather anomalies, such as a severe winter.
“There are no such statistics. Last year, our September was very similar to the one we are experiencing now, it was also very dry and quite warm. But you cannot say that the winter was in any way extreme. There is no dependence on such processes as we are observing now. Maybe because we have a short series of observations, because statistics require a long series of observations.” – the meteorologist concluded.
