“Latin American companies are investing more and more in Spain”

The Latibex Forum, the main investment meeting between Europe and Latin America, celebrates its twenty-sixth edition next week with the confirmation of the increase in investment by Latin American companies in Spain.

“We have gone from being a major investor in Latin America to seeing how Latin American companies themselves are starting to bet on Spain as a base for growth in the euro zone,” he explains. Francisco Formariz, Head of Variable Income at the Spanish Stock Exchange and Markets (BME)in statements to EFE.

According to an ICEX report mentioned by the BME official, Investments by Latin American companies in Spain increased by 138% in 2023, which “consolidates a process that we have witnessed in recent years”.

“We think it is very important that Latin American companies start investing directly herebecause it brings the Latin American reality much closer to the investor,” explains Formariz.

According to him, this trend encourages a “most favorable” scenario so that Latin American companies “continue to bet on the Spanish market” and that new companies “join the Latibex index”.

The twenty-sixth edition of the Latibex Forum will be held on November 19 and 20 at the Madrid Stock Exchange and will see the participation of more than 40 companies and 60 investors, 35% of which are international. There are 240 meetings planned.

In addition, this event offers a program of public lectures, which will address issues such as the macroeconomic situation in Latin America, investment opportunities in the region, digitalization, investment in renewable energy or artificial intelligence (AI).

In a year marked by legislative elections in several countries in the region, the victory of Donald Trump in the United States or the strength of the dollar, “We will see what the experts offer us on this new reality by mixing all the elements in the investment shaker”explains Formariz.

Business representation has companies from Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Spain.

Engie Energía Chile, Grupo Energía Bogotá, Grupo Financiero Banorte, Grupo Financiero Inbursa, Neoenergia, Rotoplas or Volcán Compañía Minera, as well as Spanish listed companies with activities in Latin America such as Iberdrola, Telefónica, BBVA, IAG, Telefónica or Repsol will be present in this new edition of the Latibex Forum.

The opening ceremony will take place in the presence of the Secretary of State for Commerce, Amparo López Senovillaand the vice president of BME, David Jiménez Blanco.
