IMF postponed planned consultations with Russia

The International Monetary Fund has indefinitely postponed scheduled consultations with Russia on the economic situation, although Moscow was prepared for this, Alexei Mozhin, the IMF’s executive director for Russia, told RIA Novosti.

“The Russian side was ready to start consultations on September 16.” He said, adding that the consultations had been postponed indefinitely.

The IMF previously said it would begin online consultations with Russian authorities on September 16, followed by a mission led by a Russian representative. Annette Kiobe will visit Russia. The foundation hopes to discuss “the country’s politics and economic development.”

Director of the IMF Communications Department Julie Kozak He explained that the holding of this type of consultation annually responds to the obligations of both the fund itself and the countries that comprise it.

The IMF did not specify the timing of its mission’s visit to the country, nor did it specify with which Russian authorities negotiations were planned.

Citing sources, Bloomberg reported that France, Belgium and Poland, as well as several Baltic and northern European countries, opposed the IMF’s consultations with Russia.
