The Federal Environmental Protection Agency asked citizens: inside their attitude. Despite other crises, the environment and climate protection remain important for many.

Berlin pelvis | Due to wars and new crises, less people believe that environmental protection and climate protection are priority. But most citizens also admit: priority inside. This is the result of the study of federal environmental management (UBA). According to this, 54 percent of the environmental and climatic protection surveyed, estimated as “very important”, 34 percent as “rather important”. In 2022, 57 percent declared these political areas “very important”, in 2020 even by 65 percent. To study UBA from September 4 to November 14, 2024, he conducted a representative survey of less than 2552 citizens: inside for more than 18 years – that is, at present in the government of the traffic light and its failure. The survey has been repeated every two years since 1996.

There are differences in accordance with the region and age. In the east, 46 percent of environmental protection and climate find “very important”, 55 percent in the West. While 63 percent of the environment and climate protection devoted high priority among more than 65 years, it is 44 percent among children from 18 to 29 years old. However, the age composition of the respondents has changed. In previous years, young people aged 14 years and older were interviewed.

Awareness of the problem in relation to plastic waste, the death of species and protection of forests and swamps increases slightly. Four fifth respondents consider the reduction of plastic waste and more than two -thirds to contribute to the development of a circular economy as a “very important” one. 61 percent also see it to protect forests and swamps.

“We have the accumulation of many crises in comparison with what environmental and climatic protection should be affirmed,” said UBA President Dirk Messner, presenting a study on Monday. Topics with great status include the state of the health and education system, crime, social justice, war and terrorism, as well as economic development. The topic of migration is considered less important than environmental and climatic protection.

UBA requires a climatic field

According to Messner’s conviction, consent to environmental protection and climate also depends on whether the social consequences of measures are, for example, with an increase in energy prices. “We must devote ourselves more,” he emphasized. Therefore, UBA requires a socially stunned climatic field. The government of the traffic light promised a climatic field, but not introduced.

Respondents publish bad evidence to those who decide to protect the environment and climate. Only 28 percent believe that the federal government during the survey of traffic lights is enough or “enough” to protect the environment and climate. 30 percent said two years ago. Cities and municipalities caught up with 2022. 35 percent believe that municipalities do enough, an increase by 8 percentage points.
