Company founder Hsu Ching-Kuan said that although the pagers were branded Apollo, they were manufactured under license in Europe by an outside manufacturer.
“It’s not our product, it just had our brand on it,” Xu said, trying to distance his company from the incident.
He added that Gold Apollo is also a victim of this incident as its brand was involved in a scandal without its involvement in the production process.
Particular attention was paid to the AP924 model pager, which was used in the devices that exploded in Lebanon. This model was subcontracted to a European company and the batch included about 5,000 devices sent to Lebanon. These pagers were not produced in Gold Apollo’s factories, but were transferred to another company for assembly, which allowed them to retain the licensing rights to the brand, but not control over the production process.
Gold Apollo is known as one of the largest pager manufacturers on the market, offering a wide range of devices used in a variety of industries including emergency services and security systems. The AP924 pager has long been popular for its reliability, ease of use, and durability, especially in areas where high-speed communications are required.
This particular model has been widely used in Lebanon and other Middle Eastern countries, where it has become part of the messaging infrastructure. This series of pagers supported the transmission of both text and audio messages, making them indispensable to terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah due to their sophisticated communications system.
Earlier, Kursor reported that the Lebanese security service commented on the bombing of Hezbollah pagers. The Mossad placed small amounts of explosives in 5,000 Taiwanese-made pagers ordered by the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah several months before the attacks, the source said.
