AEMET activates warnings in the Canary Islands due to rain, with an orange level on the island of La Palma

The National Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated warnings on five islands of the Canary Islands, at orange level (significant risk) in the case of La Palma, due to the forecast of very heavy rain showers throughout the throughout the day.

In the case of La Palma, the “orange” warning will last all day, and in the peaks, east and west of the island, up to 100 liters per square meter can be reached in twelve hours, according to data from Aemet, which warned that they will mainly affect the north and west during the first half of the day and the eastern slope in the second half, and that in many cases the precipitation will be accompanied by strong storms.

On the other islands (Gran Canaria, La Gomera, El Hierro and Tenerife), the warning is “yellow” (risk) due to the forecast of accumulation of quantities which will approach 20 liters per square meter in many places, and 60 liters in many places. twelve hours to La Gomera, El Hierro and the metropolitan area of ​​Tenerife.

AEMET said precipitation will most likely affect south and west facing areas and slopes.

In the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, a day marked by stability is expected, with a predominance of slightly cloudy or clear skies, with occasional showers in some mountainous points of western Andalusia or central environments and Westerners.

In the Cantabrian Sea and northeastern Catalonia, predominantly cloudy or overcast skies are expected with the possibility of some light and scattered precipitation or occasional showers, more likely on the Catalan coasts.
