“It must be displayed in a prominent place”

Alhaurín de la Torre will exhibit, in tribute, a Eagle patrol aircraft at one of the roundabouts in the town. In February, the Town Hall requested one of these emblematic fighters from the Historical and Cultural Service of the Air Force. The idea is to place it at the roundabout at the entrance to the urban area closest to the airport and the Malaga air base from the A-404.

To do this, he had to comply with a conditions document, in which the Army demanded from the Consistory that the device be placed in a “place important, preferential, visible and frequently attended of the urban fabric. Not just any place was going to be accepted. The conditions were further that it be “exposed and respected, as is consistent with the traditions and values of the armed forces.”

The city council is responsible for the transfer, maintenance and conservation, in addition to carrying out a “solid structure” for installation and coupling. The aim is to “pay homage” to the city’s links with the barracks.

The idea originated from a proposal by the Los Verdes brotherhood, dating back 25 years, which initially requested a street for military aviation. Finally, with the arrival of Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Monso Pérez-Chirino, the possibility of the municipality being custodian of one of these planes.

On the site, there will be an information panel specifying the transfer to storage by the Air Force and Space-Ministry of Defense. In addition, you will subscribe an insurance policy which covers the risks of transport, conservation and deterioration.
