The Hezbollah-controlled Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar published an article titled “Murder without rules” in response to the massive bombings that occurred in Lebanon on September 17.
The newspaper notes that “in one minute, the enemy managed to inflict the most brutal blows on the Islamic resistance since the beginning of the conflict.”
Al-Akhbar acknowledges the exceptional nature of the operation carried out by its enemy, highlighting its technological and intelligence superiority. This resulted in the injuries of more than 3,000 “resistance fighters and civilians”, including Hezbollah members.
Hospitals in southern Lebanon, in Bekaa, Beirut and its suburbs, were reportedly overflowing with wounded. The country’s medical system proved unprepared to simultaneously accept such a number of victims and provide them with timely assistance.
The article quotes a Hezbollah spokesman:
“The enemy has put pressure on the ‘resistance’ to abandon the traditional rules of warfare that have been in place for a year. We are facing a completely new situation.”
The paper also says the US is already making efforts to prevent a possible retaliatory military strike by Hezbollah, even if it is a limited operation.
In addition to Al-Akhbar, other Lebanese publications also paid close attention to the pager explosions, displaying confusion and panic in their headlines. For example, the A-Nahar newspaper published the headline:
“Invasion – massacre – declaration of war?”
Al-Jamhoriya newspaper published the following headline:
“The crackdown on pagers changes the rules of war”
A-Diar called the incident “Lebanese heroism meets Israeli cowardice,” and Al-Luaa newspaper said:
“Israeli criminal aggression is damaging Hezbollah’s communications network”
There is panic, confusion and emotional statements in the Lebanese media due to the latest developments.
