The criminal investigation into the case of Alim Asadov (conditional name and surname), accused of causing an accident in the Absheron District Court, has been completed.
According to information obtained by Pravda.az, the verdict was read out at the trial presided over by Judge Jamila Safiyeva.
According to the court’s verdict, Alim Asadov was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison and served his sentence in a district penitentiary.
According to the indictment, Alim Asadov, born in 1985, worked as an operator of the 11th platoon of the Highway Patrol Service Regiment (YPXA), directly subordinate to the Main Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). On January 19, 2024, at about 14:00, the defendant, serving as a police sergeant, was driving his assigned BMW car in the direction of Binagadi district, Novkhani village, Novkhani district, Absheron district. At that moment, Alim Asadov received a call on his mobile phone and lost control due to distraction. Then, through carelessness, pedestrian Mahir Gayibov (name and surname provided), who was crossing the road from right to left at the unregulated pedestrian crossing near the market located on the same street, collided with the car. The injured person, who was seriously injured, died.
During the investigation period, Alim Asadov was ordered not to go anywhere else.
The victim’s legal heir said in the court statement that his father Mahir Gayibov was a disabled person of the third group and worked as a gardener in the field belonging to the Deposit Insurance Fund located in the city of Sumgayit. It was noted that the accused himself did not attend the mourning ceremony, but his relatives participated in the mourning ceremonies on the day of the incident, the day of the funeral, the third and the seventh day, and although they tried to provide financial support, their help was refused.
