The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, responded to the media about the protocol for the reception of migrant minors contested by the prosecution, assuring that he should be “just as demanding” with the state the one with the Government of the Canary Islands in the part that concerns it, such as the identification of minors or those accompanied.

As he recalled, “for months, the prosecution has allowed the surrender of minors without guarantees”, which is why he insisted on the fact that this controversial protocol, approved last Thursday 12, aims to “protect minors, guarantee their legal security in the “emergency” situation”.

In this sense, he stressed that the document, which is based on the one approved in 2014 under the Mariano Rajoy government, wants to “ensure the protection of minors“and for this it is essential that there be “documentation, criticism and photographs.” For Clavijo, just like the parquet floor in his offices, it is”very demanding with the protection of the minor once arrived in the Canary Islands and he urges and sends letters to the Government of the Canary Islands in a demanding manner”, he considers that “it must also be demanding with the previous part which is the responsibility of the State”.

He denounced that “overload and press only one of the three legs of the table”, because “the table breaks and falls” and in this case, it is “the boys and girls who suffer the consequences”. He admitted that he would have liked “more diligence on the part of the State” and not “just pushing on in the final stretch”, because in his opinion this harms the achievement of the main objective of reaching an agreement.
