The first General policy debate or on the state of the Valencian Community, as it is popularly called, President Carlos Mazón helps the popular leader to show his chest during the rest of his first year. A management in which the change in fiscal policy compared to the previous left-wing coalition and the measures approved to reduce taxes have particularly stood out.
Faced with criticism from left-wing parties regarding the tax cuts for the richest, Mazón was energetic in Les Corts. As he stated in his speech, the changes already implemented have generated tax savings of 199 million euros for Valencians, concentrated on middle and low incomes.No deductions for buying Lamborghinis, but for buying glasses and the dentist“, he stressed, to recall the main deductions that his government approved in the regional section of personal income tax.
The Valencian president also emphasized the end of inheritance taxwith the bonus for direct family members, and the repeal of the tourist tax that the Botànic had approved. According to the regional president, each Valencian paid 1,926 euros in taxes when the left bloc came to power and, eight years later, this amount rose to 2,637 euros per inhabitant.
Faced with this fiscal pressure, he defended having implemented this year “the biggest fiscal reform in all of Spain.”A reform that I had already warned you about will continue to move forward.“There is no doubt,” he said, without announcing any new measures. The popular leader defended that “we have managed to increase revenues by lowering taxes in a more supportive, fairer and non-confiscatory way.”
Critique of the legacy
The Valencian president focused a good part of his speech on what he considers the lack of control of spending and the lack of rigor in the management of the Executive that preceded him, led by the socialist Ximo Puig.
So, he said that when they arrived at the Consell, they found “a situation that has exceeded the worst-case scenarios we could have imagined“, to the point of affirming that the previous government “was dedicated to hiding the traps that it had prepared for us”. Obstacles that add “to the burden of the CCAA, less well financed and with a central government kidnapped by the independentists”.
Mazón recalled that he inherited the community with the largest deficit in all of Spain with 3.8 billion eurosAccording to the president, his new Consell, alone, in terms of structure and political spending, will cost 20 million less in this legislature than the previous one due to the reduction of positions, although he did not mention the departure of Vox from his executive.
Among these criticisms of the management, he cited the renewable energy funnel and stressed that since July 2023, 72 installations of 1,090 MW have been authorized, compared to 56 installations of 416 MW in the previous three years. “At the Botanic’s pace, 150 years would be needed to achieve the renewable energy objective,” he stressed, to commit to a “model of energy sovereignty and self-sufficiency.”
He also accused ITV Turnaround Management or the high degree of uncontrolled public procurement, in addition to waiting lists in the Health sector, which, in the case of Priority 1, have been reduced by 60%. He also defended changes in education, to leave “ideology” out of the classrooms. in addition to urging to increase the claim for water and assured that the Valencian Community represents 40% of the purified and reused water in all of Spain.
