The youth entity of the Catalan independence left, Arran, vandalized the second residence of former footballer and businessman Gerard Piqué in Cerdanya with graffiti on the facade to denounce that the houses of the rich to spend the weekend end or spend the summer in the region accentuates the housing crisis.
“Are you tired of having to go live abroad and not being able to afford decent accommodation in Cerdanya? » begins the video posted by Arran, in which we see a hooded man in a suit painting “Go out chic” on the door of your home. the house and “Arran” on a stone wall.
Arran denied “indicating” the footballer’s second home to “go on the offensive against the tourist monoculture which is drowning the Pyrenees”. “Against the chic, the rentiers and the speculators who make our lives miserable, chasing us from our cities and forcing us into precarious jobs,” adds the entity.
The vandalization of Gerard Piqué’s house comes in the context of protests that several social and environmental groups are leading in Cerdanya against the housing crisis in the region, which particularly affects young people and workers.
In some towns in the region, more than 80% of houses are dedicated exclusively to second homes, which means that young people cannot find affordable housing and have to settle in neighboring regions like Berguedà, denounces Arran. Furthermore, the lack of economic alternatives means that the jobs offered are of poor quality and precarious.
