Barcelona Mayor Jaume Collboni announced on Wednesday a system of “joint investigation teams” between Mossos of the Squara and the Urban guard of the city, focused on the fight against “petty crime”, the multiple recurrenceknives and drug trafficking.
This was announced at a press conference after a meeting with the Minister of the Interior and Public Security, Núria Parlon; the director of Mossos, Josep Lluís Trapero; the chief commissioner, Miquel Esquius; the head of the Urban Guard, Pedro Velázquez, and the Lieutenant of Security of the City Hall, Albert Batlle.
Collboni explained that this system would involve the assignment of 120 specialized agents -60 from the Mossos and 60 from the Guardia Urbana-, and Batlle added that it would be a “permanent” device.
“Security is a priority issue. It is for Barcelona, for Catalonia and for Spain. Facing crime with the vocation of solving problems and making the concerns of citizens our own. The concerns of the neighbors are the concerns of the mayor,” said Collboni.
Let’s talk stressed that these joint operations will serve to share police intelligence for prevention purposes and to resolve the problems and the feeling of impunity of several repeat offenders.
In addition, Collboni explained that citizens will have access to data from the Catalan police’s automatic identification service and that the City Council will facilitate police access to images from security cameras controlled by citizens.
Parlon welcomed the exchange of information that will help streamline processes and combat crime and citizens’ feelings of insecurity: “Citizens must understand that there is no impunity“.

Multiple repeat offenders
About the multiple recurrenceCollboni argued that this is the “darkest black spot” and assured that he wanted to give clear and forceful answers to avoid feelings of impunity, in his own words.
“The reforms of the legal framework are necessary because they cannot be judged with the speed with which it should be done, so that they end up in prison, as is the case for many. “It is a subject that we take very seriously,” said the mayor.
He called for attacks aimed at reducing theft and eliminating the sense of impunity among criminals who “have not just served their time.”
For his part, Let’s talk He explained that in July and August general crime in Barcelona decreased by 6.8%, and specified that crimes against property decreased by 10.1%; robberies with violence and intimidation and thefts by 5% and robberies with force by 24%.
He also mentioned bladed weapons and assured that “it is neither normal nor correct” to carry bladed weapons on the street, to which Collboni said he would not allow the possession of bladed weapons to be normalized, and “even less when” there are large concentrations.
