Mañueco is committed to making the medical degrees of Burgos and León “a reality as soon as possible”

The president of the Junta de Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañuecohas committed to “leading a consensus” so that the medical degrees of Burgos and León “become a reality as soon as possible.” “We cannot miss the collective enthusiasm that has been generated in these universities and their cities,” he stressed in the presence of the highest representatives of the academic institutions of Castilla y León. Among them Manuel Pérez Mateos, rector of the University of Burgos, who hosted on this occasion the academic event that inaugurated the 2024-2025 academic year.

It is in this context that Mañueco advanced that the meeting with the four rectors of public academic institutions promised before the summer will take place on October 2nd. A meeting “at the highest level” in which it was announced that the implementation of the Organic Law of the University System (LOSU), investments, research, financing at the university level so that it is multiannual and planning at the university level will be analyzed. In this sense, he advanced that they would address the implementation of the aforementioned medical degrees in Burgos and León, “as well as other legitimate demands of the rest of the universities.” “We will all be up to it,” said the president of Castilla y León.

He recalled that on other occasions he had said that the Council “supported the legitimate aspirations of all universities with the new degrees provided that this is done on the basis of agreement and consensus and that “a practically sufficient amount is accredited to train future professionals and serve society.”In this sense, Mañueco committed to “leading” the “consensus” for a “solid progress” in university planning that allows the implementation of the aforementioned degrees.

Mañueco’s announcement came a few minutes after the intervention of the rector of the University of Burgos (UBU), Manuel Pérez Mateos, who expressed his confidence in the “sensitivity” and “political intelligence” of the president of the Junta de Castilla y León. to provide UBU with the “long-awaited” medical diploma. A degree, he said, that will contribute to “consolidating” the University Hospital of Burgos (HUBU), research in health sciences and, above all, he added, “to overcome the recognized lack of medical professionals in Castile and León and Spain.”
