The City Hall is working on legal action against the company if it does not pay the entity the amount in question.
The Valencia City Hall has denounced a fraud of 194,305 euros to the external company that manages the accounting and payments of the Conference Center. The board is already working on a request if it does not pay the entity the amount concerned.
As reported by the city council, the Congress Palace Since 2021, accounting and everything necessary for its full operational development and optimal functioning has been outsourced since 2021. In addition, it has a “mandatory” internal protocol that external companies must follow when making payments to suppliers.
The fraud was detected on September 10 when a supplier informed the external company that handles the accounting and payment of the Conference Center’s suppliers that it had not received pending payments since June.
The complaint filed by the City Council states that the external company “did not respect the internal protocol“of the Conference Center which establishes the procedure for changing the bank account of suppliers to which payments must be made.
The company that was the victim of the fraud has already claimed from its insurance company the refund of the fraudulent amount in the context of a fraud which occurred, according to the council, “due to computer identity theft in the context of a procedure for the unauthorized modification of a supplier’s bank details”.
For her part, the Tourism Councillor, Paula Llobet, explained that the establishment’s accounting has been outsourced since 2018 and that the scam “is not comparable” to the 4 million euros that the EMT lost, because “in this case, it is a real supplier who did his job.
