Bridge supports "a complicated summer" for railway incidents: "Sorry for users, we need to be calm"

The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, has requested “apologies to affected users” due to the various incidents that have occurred in the Spanish railway system during the summer, which he described as “complicated”. In this context, he showed his “commitment to correcting the problems” that these incidents may have caused.

Puente’s remarks come after he asked to appear in person at the Congress of Deputies to explain the situation of the sector, as he did last week in the Senate, where he assured that the rail service was good. Likewise, he reviewed the evolution of the infrastructure in recent years, as well as the reduction of waiting times or the increase in frequencies, which he demonstrated again this Thursday.

The minister assured that “failures occur in all railway systems in the world” and if in Spain “have increased in the last year” He excludes that it is “the abandonment of the network, but due to a large volume of work” that “produces delays”: “The inconveniences are temporary, but the benefits will be definitive,” said the head of the Development portfolio.

In this sense, Puente stressed that “especially between 2012 and 2018” investments “were reduced to a minimum”, while today a “a huge investment effort” even if “it wasn’t always like this”.
