A nuclear power plant in western Finland, located on the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia in the Baltic Sea, on the island of Olkiluoto, has broken down again.
Since yesterday, November 17, one of the power units at the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant, where automation interrupted power generation due to a malfunction, has not been operational.
“Electricity production at Olkiluoto 3 was interrupted on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at 16:28 due to a turbine malfunction. “The Olkiluoto 3 unit was operating normally when a turbine failure automatically interrupted electricity production at the power plant.” – said in a statement from the company that owns the station.
Problems at nuclear power plants in 2024 have been repeatedly reported. So, on September 9, power unit number 2 was disabled due to a malfunction.
The three active reactors at the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant provide approximately 30% of the electricity consumed in Finland.
