A new embassy will soon be opened in Jerusalem. Paraguayan President Santiago Peña announced that he plans to open a diplomatic mission for his country in December.

“Next December I will open the Paraguayan embassy in Jerusalem.”
The measure will strengthen ties between Paraguay and Israel.
Paraguay is a landlocked South American country located in the center of the continent. Its capital is Asunción. Paraguay has a rich history and cultural heritage, combining the influences of indigenous peoples and European colonizers. The country’s official languages are Spanish and Guaraní.
Paraguay’s economy is based on agriculture, particularly the production of soybeans, corn and beef, as well as hydroelectric power, through which the country exports electricity to neighboring countries. Paraguay is known for its stable economic growth in recent years and its efforts to improve infrastructure.
Politically, Paraguay is a presidential republic and the current president is Santiago Peña, who is actively working to strengthen international ties, including cooperation with Israel.

An extraordinary meeting was held in the Chamber of Deputies of Paraguay, organized by its president Raúl Latorre.
Among the participants were Israeli Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, as well as relatives of the victims of the Hamas terror attack on October 7 last year. The delegation included Elhanan Danino, whose son Ori was kidnapped and killed by Hamas militants at the Nova festival, and Avi Hasidim, who lost his son Naor in Kibbutz Kfar Aza. The Paraguayan MPs greeted them with applause and expressed their support.
In his speech, Ohana stressed that “true friendship does not depend on convenience” and noted that relations between Paraguay and Israel have strengthened even in times of crisis. He also noted that Paraguay has remained a loyal ally of Israel on the world stage, despite international pressure, and has always supported Israel in the fight against terrorist threats. Ohana expressed his deep gratitude to Paraguay and noted that Israel will never forget those who stood firm in difficult times.
