Russian President Vladimir Putin extended the powers of Moscow State University (Lomonosov Moscow State University) rector Viktor Sadovnichy for another five years. This is demonstrated by a decree published on the official legal information portal.
Sadovnichy is now 85 years old; He has served as rector of the country’s main university since 1992. In July of this year, Sadovnichy was re-elected to the position of president of the Russian Union of Rectors (RUR), which he has headed since 1994.
Viktor Sadovnichy was born on April 3, 1939 in the Kharkov region, graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics of Moscow State University, defended his doctoral and candidate theses, in 1975 he became a professor at Moscow State University and Since the early 1980s he has been head of the mathematical analysis department of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics.
Sadovnichy is also an honorary member of the RAS (Russian Academy of Sciences) and sits on the academy’s presidium.
Sadovnichy is a full holder of the Order of Merit to the Fatherland.
