The Government set up a “crisis committee” on Tuesday evening for monitoring the effects of DANA on the Mediterranean coast and in Albacete. The objective, as indicated by the Executive to laSexta, is “coordinate response efforts and assistance for this phenomenon” which caused serious flooding and damage in several areas of the south and east of the peninsula.
The committee has already held a first meeting in the offices of the Department of National Security in Moncloa, under the chairmanship of the first vice-president and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Monteroand with the assistance of the Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Cortes, Félix Bolaños; the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, and the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska.
The third vice-president and minister of ecological transition and demographic challenge also participated in the meeting electronically, Therese Ribera, and the government delegate in Valencia, Pilar Bernabé. Likewise, they reported that the crisis committee contacted the presidents of the Valencian Community, Castile-La Mancha, Murcia and Andalusia, as well as government delegates in these territories.
After the devastating effects of DANA and the unpredictable consequences, the committee made available “all the necessary personnel from the UME, the National Police, the Civil Protection and the Civil Guard” of the affected territories. The organ will remain “meet continuously to analyze the situation” until the storm subsidesthe government said.
Likewise, they explained that from this Wednesday, the commission will be chaired by the President of the Government, Pedro Sanchezonce he returned from his official trip to India. This afternoon, Sánchez stressed on the X network that he continues “closely and with concern the information about the missing people and the damage caused by DANA“.
The DANA on Spain, which mainly flooded the south and east of the Iberian Peninsula, caused floods, traffic cuts, destroyed crops and even the derailment of an AVE, while a search for a truck driver disappeared in Alcudia (Valencia) and six people are missing in Letur (Albacete) after the flood that affected the municipality this Tuesday.
