Relief in an Iturrama fruit shop in Pamplona after a runner withdrew from the San Fermin bullfight

Valencian Leonard Beltran, that in these Sanfermines he removed his runner’s ponytail after 30 years, He also achieved a second goal this year: retiring and transferring the fruit and vegetable store he ran. Pamplona.

It’s very close to other establishments that we have seen in this section of local commerce in Pamplona, as is the case of the old haberdashery Marta either the Iruña Tron electronic components store.

Leonardo and his wife Angélica P. Orrego They opened the fruit and vegetable store in 2018 on Sancho el Fuerte Avenue “but it was very small.” Shortly after, they moved her to 32 Fuente del Hierro Street. She brought the oranges and tangerines directly from her city and it was very successful..

“People already know us, The previous clientele comes and now we have double and sometimes triple. This neighborhood of Iturrama is very good, very good. Many people came to get the oranges that we bring directly from our fields, but now there is much more movement than before,” said Leonardo.

However, the years pass and Leonardo has reached the age of 65 and has retired. He moved the store and managed to take over: “They are very nice people. In addition, I helped them with the customers and I will bring them fruit from Valencia, like before.”

This is an Ecuadorian marriage formed by Maira Columba, 40, and Kleber Luje, 43: “We are originally from Ecuador and have been here for over twenty years. We were regular customers of the store. I was very friendly with the woman and she told me that Leonardo was about to retire and wanted to transfer the fruit store.”

“He offered it to me. I told my partner Kleber about it and we decided to start. We have been here since the beginning of June. Leonardo has helped us. We have not changed any distributor or anything. He will bring us oranges and tangerines from his field in Valencia,” they say.

During these summer months when they are open, there are not many sales because of the holidays: “Leonardo tells us that it is normal and that he himself did not open in August.”

“From September, we expect an increase in sales. We are neighbors in the same building and we saw that there was a queue forming to get in, That’s why we decided to see if we had the same luck. At least keep it up,” they say.

Customers found no difference: “Leonardo kept his promises. He helped us a lot. I told people that we were going to become the new owners and I introduced us to the customers. From October, they will bring us their oranges and tangerines,” they say.

“People keep coming. They welcome us and hope we are well. I think it will go well because people are used to the products and I have not even changed the name of the store. I prefer to be in Pamplona where you can see mountains and not in Madrid where I worked for a few years,” conclude Kleber and Maira.
