American film producer Harvey Weinstein has pleaded not guilty to rape charges he allegedly committed in 2006, NBC News reports.
ABC television reported on September 12 that New York prosecutors had filed new charges against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein without revealing their content.
“Weinstein, who arrived at the Manhattan courthouse in a wheelchair, pleaded not guilty to one count of first-degree sexual assault.” – says the material.
According to the indictment, the crime occurred in late April or early May 2006 at a Manhattan hotel in New York. The victim’s name has not been released.
The television channel says that Weinstein was present at the meeting in a wheelchair, as he had been hospitalized in an emergency and had undergone heart surgery on September 9.
According to the channel, the total number of women who have accused Weinstein of rape or harassment has exceeded 80.
A New York jury found Weinstein guilty in 2020 of rape and forcible oral sex, he was sentenced to 23 years in prison, but in April 2024 the appeals court overturned the sentence and recommended a new trial, claiming the court walked away with violations.
Manhattan prosecutors later said they were investigating new testimony from three alleged victims of Weinstein’s sex crimes that could lead to a new trial against him.
In addition to the New York case, Weinstein was also sentenced to 16 years in prison for rape by a Los Angeles court in 2022.
The case against Weinstein became one of the most notorious in the history of Hollywood and world cinema; dozens of women, including world-famous stars, accused the producer, founder of the Miramax studio, of sexual assault. Weinstein himself denied the accusations and said that all contacts were consensual.
