Surprise among the workers’ union representatives at the announcement of the acquisition by the Valladolid company Martínez Marcos of the Bimbo facilities in the industrial zone of San Cristóbal. It is a family business, dedicated to the transport of goods by road nationally and internationally, whose main activity is the transfer of powdery products in tank trucks, supplemented by the suction of goods and stations washing in different strategic points of the national geography. .
Nothing to do with the activity of Bimbo, which did not prevent the two groups from reaching an agreement announced yesterday and by which the buyer undertakes to invest around five million euros and create 50 jobs , including the reinstatement of employees of the factory which ceased its activity.
The “ambitious project”, according to sources close to the operation, aims to become a food storage logistics platform with silos and cold rooms, laundry, workshops, paint booth and overhead parking for more than 300 truck locations. A reindustrialization plan which was possible thanks to the mediation of LHH, belonging to the Adecco group, which was responsible for finding an investor for the Valladolid factory.
The news, broadcast by the mediation company, was received by the workers’ representatives in a “positive” manner, even if they did not want to go any further while waiting to know today the details of the operation and the conditions under which the fifty workers would be incorporated. They warned, in this sense, that the bakery activity they carried out with Bimbo has nothing to do with what Martínez Marcos will create, a family business founded in 1964 by Eladio Martínez Marcos with operations in Madrid , Tarragona, Bilbao, Seville, Malaga and Valencia. It has a fleet of more than 200 trucks and serves the agri-food and industrial sector nationally and internationally. “This new acquisition and the creation of jobs will enable the company to achieve firm and sustained growth,” underline sources from this company.
The multinational Bimbo stressed, for its part, that with this operation “the commitment made with worker representatives to mitigate the consequences of stopping production at the Valladolid factory is respected.” With the purchase it is also achieved that practically all staff have, in principle, a destination once the factory ceases its activity thanks to relocations to other bakery factories, early retirements, certain incentive leaves and, now, to the new industrial project. .
The Minister of Industry, Trade and Employment, Leticia García, also welcomed the agreement. “If the workers are satisfied, the Council is also satisfied,” he stressed. He highlighted in particular that Martínez Marcos is a company from Castile and León and that in addition, “it has a family base, which indicates that there will be no relocation and that it will remain in Valladolid “. Now, he stressed, “we are at your disposal for whatever you need.”
For his part, the mayor of Valladolid, Jesús Julio Carnero, highlighted the “discreet and exemplary” work of the City Hall in resolving the Bimbo conflict. The councilor wanted to say, in statements collected by Ical, that “from the first moment” when the City Hall learned that Bimbo was “leaving Valladolid”, “we worked with the rest of the administrations to find a solution for the
