The Alcaste-Las Fuentes school will stop gender segregation starting next year. It is the only center in La Rioja with this educational model and it was also a center subsidized by the government of La Rioja. However, the agreement ended in 2026 and the new Education Law 2/2006 requires the mixed model in all centers supported partially or fully by public funds.
That is why, to maintain the agreement, Alcaste-Las Fuentes will implement the mixed education model in September, at the start of the 2025/2026 school year, and has already communicated it to families. The decision involves a reorganization of the centers, so that the infant and primary levels remain in the center of Logroño and in Nalda, in the facilities of the Las Fuentes school so far for children, secondary and baccalaureate will be taught.
From the Ministry of Education, they limited themselves to emphasizing that it is a decision of the center that they respect.
The sexual segregation of the center meant that they could not receive the help that the La Rioja government put in place for the private baccalaureate, for the same reason that the Education Law 2/2006 stipulates that only centers who cannot receive public assistance can receive public assistance. They separate their students by gender.
