AEMET puts ten communities on alert due to rain and storms

Ten communities continue this Thursday with a rain or storm warning, with a greater incidence in the Valencian Community, where the orange alert persists (high risk) due to rains that will accumulate up to 40 liters in one hour, reports the Meteorological Agency (AEMET) on its website.

In some areas of the eastern peninsula, the Valencian Community has activated the orange level in the province of Castellón due to rains on the coast with accumulated precipitation of 40 liters per square meter in one hour, in a time slot starting at 6:00 p.m. on the peninsula; Alicante and Valencia, in yellow (risk) will accumulate 30 liters in one hour.

Catalonia and Aragon are at the yellow level due to rain and thunderstorms in all their provinces, with accumulations of between 15 and 30 litres in one hour. The Meteorological Agency warns that the showers will be “heavy or very heavy over a large part of the territory” this Thursday.

In the south of the country, Andalusia maintains the yellow alert for rain and storms in the provinces of Córdoba and Jaén, where 15 liters will be collected in one hour, as well as in the city of Melilla.

The Community of Madrid, in yellow, due to rainfall that will accumulate up to 15 liters per hour accompanied by occasional thunderstorms, while in Extremadura, also in yellow, 15 liters per hour are expected with a probability of thunderstorms.

In Castilla y León, the provinces of Ávila, Burgos, Salamanca, Segovia and Soria are under yellow alert for rainfall of 15 litres in one hour, as in all the provinces of Castilla-La Mancha, where 15 litres will also be collected in one hour.

In the northern half of the peninsula, Cantabria is under yellow alert for rain in the eastern areas of Cantabria del Ebro, where storms and showers are expected that will collect 15 liters in an hour; In La Rioja, AEMET predicts storms and rains of 15 liters in an hour in parts of the Iberian Rioja.

AEMET warns that with the orange alert there is a significant meteorological risk, with a certain degree of danger for usual activities, and that with the yellow alert there is no meteorological risk for the population in general, although there is for some specific activities.

Here is the prediction of the autonomous communities:

GALICIA: In the first part of the day there will be probable mists in the interior of Lugo and La Coruña, the sky will be cloudy in the northern part and clear in the rest, while from noon it will increase to intervals of medium and high clouds in the interior and probable heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms in the south and east.

Minimum temperatures will increase in the eastern part and decrease slightly on the coast, while maximum temperatures will decrease on the Atlantic coast and increase in the northeast. On the north coast and up to Finisterre the moderate northeast wind will be weak, on the west coast the variable wind will blow moderately during the central hours and inland the light variable wind will tend towards the west during the central hours.

ASTURIAS: Inland, the sky will be cloudy, while in the Cantabrian mountains, the sky will be clear in the morning but with possible showers accompanied by thunderstorms. Temperatures will experience a general rise, except on the coast. The wind will be light and with a breeze regime.

CANTABRIA: The sky will be clear in the first part of the day, with possible fog patches, and from noon there will be intervals of medium and high clouds in the interior, with probable heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms in Cantabria del Ebro.

Minimum temperatures will increase slightly inland and will not change elsewhere, while maximum temperatures will generally increase. The wind will be light and there will be a breeze.

BASQUE COUNTRY: The sky will be clear but in the afternoon there will be intervals of medium and high cloudiness in the interior, without excluding morning mists in the high areas of the interior, while the possibility of showers will be low but with possible storms in the southeast.

Temperatures will generally increase, more notably in the case of maximums. The wind will be light from the southeast inland and from the east with moderate intervals on the coast, in addition to the breeze regime.

CASTILE AND LEON: The sky will be overcast with the possibility of showers accompanied by thunderstorms in the south, without excluding morning fog banks in the mountainous areas of the north and east.

Minimum temperatures will increase significantly, while maximum temperatures will increase slightly in the north and decrease slightly in the south. Winds will be light in general.

NAVARRE: Cloudy periods are expected, with a predominance of low cloudiness in the first part of the day, with possible scattered rain accompanied by thunderstorms, especially in the Pyrenees and the eastern half. Temperatures will rise, which will be notable in the case of minimums in the Ribera del Ebro. The south-east wind will be weak.

RIOJA: There will be cloudy periods with possible heavy showers that may be accompanied by thunderstorms and that will be more likely in the mountains. Temperatures will rise slightly, although minimum temperatures in the east will be more pronounced. Winds will be light in general.

ARAGON: The sky is expected to be covered with showers accompanied by thunderstorms, more abundant in the afternoon, which will be strong in Teruel and Zaragoza and in the Pyrenees at the end of the day.

Minimum temperatures will increase in the west and with little change in the rest, while maximum temperatures will increase slightly in the north and will not change in the rest. Light southerly and southeasterly winds will predominate.

CATALONIA: There will be cloudy periods, especially in the afternoon, with showers on the south coast from the early hours, which can be heavy, while in the afternoon they will be likely in the western half and in the Pyrenees and heavy at the end of the day. Temperatures will not change. The wind will be weak but with occasional increases in intensity in the Empordà.

EXTREMADURA: The sky will be cloudy with probable showers, which could be heavy and accompanied by a thunderstorm. The minimum temperatures will not change and the maximum temperatures will decrease slightly. The winds will be light in general.

MADRID COMMUNITY: There will be morning fog patches at high elevations in the Sierra, with a possibility of mist, and cloudy skies with scattered rain likely that will be widespread and heavy in the afternoon. Minimum temperatures will see little change, while maximum temperatures will generally decrease. Winds will be light and east to south in the morning.

CASTILE-LA MANCHA: Morning fog is expected in the high areas of the eastern part, with the possibility of mist, and a cloudy sky with widespread showers that will be heavy and with thunderstorms and hail in the western half, with the probability of accumulating 40 liters in 12 hours during the afternoon.

Minimum temperatures will increase in the mountainous areas of Guadalajara and decrease slightly in the rest, while maximum temperatures will decrease, except in Albacete and southeast of Cuenca. The wind will blow light from the south in the eastern half and variable in the western half.

VALENCIAN COMMUNITY: A very cloudy sky is expected, with heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms on the coast of Valencia, Castellón and north of Alicante from early in the morning, which will extend inland throughout the day. The thermometers will not change. The wind will be moderate to light on the coast of Alicante, while in the rest, the light easterly wind will predominate.

REGION OF MURCIA: Morning fog is expected in the northwestern mountain ranges and cloudy skies with occasional rain and storms, which will be more likely and intense during the afternoon in the interior. Temperatures will change little. Winds will vary light to moderate during the afternoon.

BALEARIC ISLANDS: The sky will be cloudy with scattered rain in Ibiza, Formentera and a little lighter in Mallorca. Night temperatures will decrease and daytime temperatures will increase slightly. The easterly wind will be between light and moderate.

ANDALUSIA: The sky will be overcast with the probability of heavy showers with thunderstorms in the north of the community and with morning mists in the Betic Mountains and on the Atlantic coast. Minimum temperatures, with little change, and maximum temperatures will decrease except on the Mediterranean coast. Southerly winds will be weak to moderate.

CANARY ISLANDS: The sky will be mostly cloudy, with a chance of rain in Tenerife and La Palma. Minimum temperatures will decrease slightly in the eastern islands and maximum temperatures will decrease slightly in the western islands.

The wind will be light with a predominance of the northern component and in the central peaks of Tenerife, moderate westerly wind.
